When you think of the actor Jeff Goldblum the words eccentric, intense and quirky often come to mind. He's not the type you'd imaging playing football or any sports for that matter. Born in 1952 in the Pittsburg suburb of West Homestead, the son of a radio broadcaster and doctor, Goldblum is known for his pausing, staccato delivery of his lines and his distinctive glasses. Besides starring in a variety of movies, and appearing in some odd TV shows, which you can all catch on satellite TV, the actor has leant his voice to commercials, notably Apple and Toyota. Here's a list of some of his most memorable roles.
The Fly: This 1986 science fiction horror film starred Goldblum as Seth Brundle a brilliant, but, yes, eccentric scientist. Goldblum costars alongside Geena Davis who plays journalist Vernoica Quaife. The two meet at party held by Bartok Science Industries, the company which supports Brundle's work in telepods. In the movie, which was directed by David Cronenberg, Brundle becomes a fly human hybrid. You can most likely catch this classic work of sci-fi fantasy on satellite TV's Sci-fi channel.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers: In this alien flick, Goldblum plays Jack Bellicec, a writer who owns a mud bath with his wife Nancy; there he discovered a deformed body and calls on his friend Matthew to investigate. They then discover that aliens or pod people are trying to take over the Earth. This is another movie you can be sure to find on any of the movie or science fiction channels on satellite TV.
Earth Girls Are Easy: This is 1988 American comedy directed by Julien Temple. Goldblum again stars alongside Geena Davis. The movie features three different colored aliens flying in a space ship; they come across planet Earth where they meet Davis who plays Valerie Gail a manicurist. Goldblum plays the blue alien called Mac. Together with his fellow aliens played by Jim Carrey and Damon Wayans, the aliens learn about human life through Davis.
Jurassic Park: This Steven Spielberg blockbuster thrilled the world with its special effects. In it, Jeff Goldblum portrays a somewhat eccentric chaos theoretician named Ian Malcolm. Jurassic Park is regarded as a pioneer in its use of computer generated imagery. It's definitely one to watch on a flat screen HD TV.
The Lost World: Goldblum reprises his role as the scientist or chaos theorist in this blockbuster film. The dinosaurs are even bigger and meaner than before. The high definition clarity of their long fangs will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. Don't miss out on this dino-mite sci-fi thriller.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou: This Wes Anderson film features an ensemble cast including Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Seu Jorge, Cate Blanchett and Anjelica Huston. Goldblum plays Alistair Hennessy, a rich, suave and successful oceanographer. This movie is beautifully shot, with unique takes within Zissou's boat-definitely, this is one to watch in HD.
